Ladybugs: Kindergarten

Introduction:

  • Whole Class: Read a ladybug book such as The Grouchy Ladybug or Ten Little Ladybugs or watch a ladybug related video to introduce topic. One cute video is a retelling of The Grouchy Ladybug and here are a few other fun ladybug videos.

Art:

  • Whole Class: Demonstrate how to draw a ladybug in a drawing program. Emphasize that a ladybug is made of simple shapes.
  • Each student will draw their own picture of a ladybug which will be saved for use in a PowerPoint later.

Math:

  • Whole Class: Introduce the and show how each slide should be completed. The concepts covered include:
    • Counting (entry of number into a text box)
    • Pattern Recognition & Completion (dragging graphic which completes pattern into a box)
    • Matching of Number Words to a Number (drawing a line with the drawing tool)
    • Matching of Time to the Hour to a Clock, this includes references to The Grouchy Ladybug (drawing a line with the drawing tool)
  • Each student will complete their Ladybug Math PowerPoint including adding their ladybug picture to the final slide.

Games:

Some of these have educational value while others are purely for fun but they help to extend the theme for those early finishers in the class.
